This former Victorian school, now used as an adult education centre, is threatened with demolition as it is to be sold to raise £100 million towards the rebuilding of four City College sites.
The Brighton Society would like to see the existing building converted to flats, in the way that similar buidlings eg Hove Hospital and Finsbury Road school, have been converted, with perhaps a portion of the bulding devoted to an adult education centre.
Additional houses or flats, or even a purpose built adult education centre, could be built on the remaining part of the site.
A petition with more than 551 signatures against the plan to demolish the Connaught Centre has been presented to the City Council's cabinet member for enterprise, employment and major projects.
