AND THE BAND PLAYED ON
Success after decades of campaigning! The Bandstand has been restored in its original colours—Brunswick green and cream.
Recent improvement works were recently praised by the Royal Insitute of Chartered Surveyors and was named as runner-up in the conservation category: “The refurbishment work involved meticulous research to ensure that all the architectural works were undertaken correctly.”
The ground floor has been converted from public conveniences to a café. The bandstand itself has been restored for band concerts and other events, and the surrounding area is being landscaped. We preferred the original geometric landscaping as we believed it was a more appropriate foil to the bandstand itself. Nonetheless to see the restoration complete, is a joyful moment that has been worth the wait.
